Community Service

Community service ranks high on our list of priorities. In keeping with our longstanding (30+ year) dedication to giving back, Health Advances established Founders Day, named in honor of our founders Paula Ness Speers and Mark Speers.

This offers a wonderful opportunity to give of our time and energy in a very different manner than our usual activities. Teams from our offices in Boston, San Francisco, Zug, and Hong Kong partner with incredible local organizations to contribute to shaping a brighter future for those in need.  Here are some of the organizations we’ve worked with:

  • Cradles to Crayons, Newton, MA, USA

Cradles to Crayons, Newton, MA, USA

Without adequate and appropriate clothing, children face unfair barriers and participate in life on an unequal playing field. Across most of the United States, only three (food, housing, energy) of four basic needs are supported by government safety net programs. Cradles to Crayons uses the term “Clothing Insecurity” as part of our efforts to formally recognize the issue, and increase awareness on this hidden basic need.

Community Resources for Science (CRS), Berkeley, CA, USA

For more than two decades, CRS has been working to strengthen science teaching and learning for elementary and middle school children, particularly in schools serving underrepresented minority and low-income communities. The tremendous progress that has been made in recent years in many East Bay schools is in jeopardy due to impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.

  • Brockenhaus, Zug, Switzerland

    Brockenhaus, Zug, Switzerland

Brockenhaus Zug checks and sells used goods that are received from private individuals and companies. This is sustainable in several ways: If you don't throw away discarded everyday objects and household items but pass them on, you make it possible for people with limited financial resources to shop in a budget-friendly way. And those who defy the throwaway society and reuse the goods protect the environment and conserve the earth’s precious resources.
